Noteworthy:

  • The recently turned 15-year-old McKee drove to his third career TA2 Series victory in his 11th career start. All three of his wins came in the last four races. His first came June 22 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, followed by his July 12 win at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. The lone outlier in that span was his runner-up finish June 29 to TeamSLR teammate Mike Skeen at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. It also marked his seventh consecutive podium finish.
  • McKee qualified second took the lead for good when polesitter Tyler Gonzalez pitted with a cut tire on lap six.
  • McKee entered the weekend with an 82-point lead over second-place Thomas Annunziata atop the TA2 standings. Annunziata was not entered for this weekend’s race. Today’s runner-up finisher Sam Corry began the weekend third in the standings, 167 points behind McKee.
  • Odrick’s 12th-place overall finish in his M1 Racecars entry for Troy Benner Autosport netted the runner-up spot among the Pro-Am Challenge-class competitors. It was his sixth class podium finish in nine races this season.
  • This weekend marked TeamSLR’s first race since its second-year Pro-Am Challenge driver Barry Boes was involved in a fatal aviation accident. The defending class champion was once again atop the standings through the season’s first eight races.

Tristan McKee, Driver, No. 28 Spire Gainbridge/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro:

“I want to thank all our TeamSLR guys. They brought me a really fast Chevy Camaro, so props to them. They worked hard this weekend getting the car dialed in. We’ve had a lot of changes since the last race, so it feels really good to be just as fast as we were after the changes and all. Obviously the 10 (polesitter Tyler Gonzalez) had some issues there, so that’s unfortunate for them. Once we got the lead, we were able to control the race and just kind of maintained. We played it a little bit conservative as far as the tires were concerned, waiting for them to get up to temp for a couple of laps. But after that we pretty much controlled the race. We had some good battles with Sam (Corry), so that was definitely really, really cool. I’ve got to thank all my sponsors, Spire, Gainbridge, HendrickCars.com, Chevrolet. Also, this one’s for Barry (Boes). We’re super sad to not have him out here with us, but I’m sure he’s happy up there that we could get this one done for him.”
