Scott Lagasse Racing Wraps up Season Opener at Sebring International Raceway

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (Mar. 1, 2022) Scott Lagasse Racing took on the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli season opener at Sebring International Raceway this past weekend. A record-setting 48 drivers started the race, with 4 of them being from Scott Lagasse Racing (TeamSLR). Those 4 include Connor Mosack, Jack Wood, Dillon Machavern, and William Sawalich. When the green flag waved, William Sawalich, the 15-year-old in his first TA2 start, ran a very clean race and finished strong in 9th place. Jack Wood and Dillon Machavern, were charging hard into the top 10, and top 5 respectively, but neither achieved the results, with their fate being out of their control. Connor Mosack who was running in the top 3, also retired early on lap 4 with a mechanical issue, resulting in a 44th place finish.

“The weekend started out really good, we were fastest in first practice and a Top 3 car in the second practice. I thought we had a really good shot at the race, we normally race better than where we qualify so we were all looking forward to it. We made some changes, and the car felt good at the start of the race. Unfortunately, a mechanical issue struck 4 laps into the race and we were unable to see what we had, but our teammates finished the race strong. An unfortunate ending for us, we had a fast car, so I think we will be there to fight for the win at the next race in Charlotte.”

Jack Wood, #27 Velocity Racing/M1 Racecars/Team SLR, Chevrolet Camaro:

“I thought the team executed the weekend well, we didn’t quite have the speed that I would have liked but I think it’s always good seat time and I feel that gains were made. It’s a bummer we didn’t get the finish we wanted but we will learn from our mistakes and be better at the next one.”

 William Sawalich, #8 Starkey/Audibel-SLR/M1 Racecars, Chevrolet Camaro:

“I think my first Trans Am race went very well. I was not expecting such a large number of cars on the starting grid, so I took a more conservative approach early in the race, which payed off in the long run. Overall, I was very happy with the 9th place finish. The team helped me get comfortable, especially with the mentoring from Scott Lagasse Sr. and Scott Lagasse Jr. I cannot wait to see what I can do in my next Trans Am Race.”

Dillon Machavern, #17 Unifirst/Heritage Automotive Group, M1 Racecars/Team SLR, Ford Mustang:

“After discovering an issue following a somewhat disappointing P8 qualifying, we were confident that we would have a race car to compete. The SLR team did an awesome job overcoming the issue and giving the car the speed that we needed. The #17 had great pace from the drop of the green flag and I started to move forward through a chaotic field. Unfortunately, we just didn’t get the finish we deserved while running in the top 5. I am looking forward to my next race with the team at Watkins Glen later this year.”
