This past weekend, the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli completed the 2020 season, with a double header race at Road Atlanta. This was a make-up race postponed from earlier in the season due to COVID-19.
The fast 2.54-mile track is a driver and fan favorite. Connor Mosack was back behind the wheel of the No. 96 Nic Tailor Custom Fit Underwear/ Interstate Foam and Supply Chevrolet Camaro. This is Mosack’s second Trans Am race, and first visit to Road Atlanta. He raced with M1 Racecars earlier this season at Virginia International Raceway delivering a very impressive 5th place finish in his first ever TA2 race.
“Connor drove great both days and dealt with gravel thrown on the track causing a broken cooling belt in Saturday’s race, and went out on Sunday with a broken rear hub after another solid top-10 performance. He was impressive throughout the weekend, and has shown he can be a top contender at every track will certainly be a contender at all the tracks in the series,” said Scott Lagasse Jr.
Filling in for Scott Lagasse Jr., who was sitting out due to a reoccurrence of concussion symptoms from the VIR wreck in 2019, was Mark Brummond. Mark is a regular in the TA SGT class and would be making his first ever laps in a TA2 car during the weekend.
Mark drove the new M1 Racecars Mustang and surprised the team as he adapted quickly to these unique, “raw” racecars.
Brummond was a late addition, and would miss practice, but learned the car quickly. After working his was through the field, grass clogged the radiator screen, which overheated the engine. The No. 17 of Brummond was not able to be fixed and would not start the race on Sunday.
“Connor and Mark both dealt with challenges beyond their control. Sometimes hard work, the best plans and efforts, just isn’t enough and so we learn and improve in the areas where we can,” said Scott Lagasse Sr.
“Overall, it was a good weekend for me. I learned a lot from working with Scott Sr. and Scotty. Road Atlanta is a fun track, and extremely challenging. Even though our finishing positions don’t reflect how fast we were, we still made big strides toward our end goal,” said Mosack. I am looking forward to getting back behind the wheel as we test and prepare for next season.”
