Noteworthy:
● Day, the 34-year-old from Ashdod, Israel, earned his first CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series victory in his fifth career start, 24 hours removed from earning his first career pole in the series. It was his fourth consecutive podium finish, preceded by a third-place finish March 14 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, and runner-up finishes in both races of the April 25-26 weekend doubleheader at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway.
● Maier, the 17-year-old from Chester, Maryland, made his first TA2 Series start of the season, the 27th of his career, and first with TeamSLR. Saturday’s runner-up finish, 5.835 seconds behind his teammate Day, was his third career TA2 Series podium. His previous podiums both came in 2024, when he won from the pole at World Wide Technology Raceway outside St. Louis, and finished second after starting on the pole at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex.
● Mosack, the 27-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, made his fourth start of the season, albeit as a last-minute substitute for TeamSLR regular Lanie Buice behind the wheel of the No. 27 Sunoco/Guthrie’s Garage/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro. Buice spent the weekend continuing her recovery from the aftereffects of an accident during a Late Model event last weekend at Tri County Speedway in Granite Falls, North Carolina. Mosack’s third-place result was his second podium finish for the second time in three raes. He finished third in the opening race of the Sonoma weekend doubleheader.
● Meza, the 18-year-old from Houston, saw his five-race TA2 Series winning streak come to an end in his sixth career start in the series and first at Lime Rock.
● Day’s victory Saturday was the 12th in a row for TeamSLR, dating back to 15-year-old Tristan McKee’s triumph at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington last June en route to the 2025 TA2 Series championship.
● Odrick, the 2025 TA2 Series Pro-Am Challenge champion, won the class for the third consecutive race and the fourth time in five races this season with his 12th-place finish overall in his No. 00 Black Underwear/M1 Racecars Camaro for Troy Benner Autosport.
Alon Day, Driver, No. 17 JSSI/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro:
“I didn’t know exactly what to expect when I started the race. I love to drive in the rain, but here, it’s such a narrow track, very fast. If you just touch the grass a bit, you’re going straight to the wall. So it was very, very difficult, I had to concentrate 100 percent, and that’s really demanding. What can I say? Without these TeamSLR guys, I wouldn’t be here. I really have to thank everybody because they gave me a rocket yet again. And I want to thank JSSI, my main sponsor, that gives me the opportunity to be here. I’m extremely grateful and I’m so happy to be here and be able to finally win on American soil. I’m a very happy boy. It’s pretty funny that I actually live in Israel, in the Middle East, so I don’t get to see too much rain like we had here today. And to be able to drive in the rain and be quick, it’s always fun. This is a dream come true, finally having my trophy, and hopefully it’s not the last one. I can only hope to keep keep it up. We are by far the most hardworking people. We are the first to get to the track, we are the last ones to leave the track. It’s not only the drivers, but also every person in Team SLR. They do an amazing job and they are working really hard. Finishing 1-2-3, that’s amazing, a dream result for us.”
Ben Maier, Driver, No. 8 Chevrolet/SLR-M1 Racecars Camaro:
“First off, I just want to say I was in the No. 8 car this weekend, definitely felt the weight on my shoulders because of that and losing Kyle Busch. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his whole family. Today was a really tough race. The line was really fast this weekend and I thought saving a little bit at the beginning and falling back, saving my rear tires a little bit, would’ve given me the edge in the end, but it didn’t really help me too much in the end. The tires sort of had the same amount of fall off and it didn’t get me too far or too much speed in the end. But I want to thank Team SLR and everyone at Chevrolet – Scott Speed, Josh Wise, Dan Stratton, Dan Jansen and Lorin Ranier – for making this whole race possible and making me the best person I can be. It was a really fun weekend.”
Connor Mosack, Driver, No. 27 Sunoco/Guthrie’s Garage/SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro:
“I’d just like to say it’s been a little bit of a heavy weekend losing Kyle Busch. He’s my teammate in the (NASCAR Craftsman) Truck Series this year, so that hits home. Obviously not at the NASCAR event this weekend, but I’m really happy to be here. It just makes you grateful to be able to be behind the wheel of racecars. Lanie had a hard crash last weekend, so I got the call to fill in for her. So, just thank you to Chevrolet, Sunoco, Guthrie’s Garage, and Team SLR for having me this weekend. I love coming back and driving these cars, and especially here at Lime Rock in the rain. It’s always a fun race. Things didn’t go our way in qualifying yesterday, so I was actually hoping for some rain. Thought it might give us a little bit better of a chance with how tough it can be to pass here, especially as fast as my teammates are. We did so good today, but it was hard to get up there, but overall I had a blast. Congrats to Alon for getting his first win.”
Helio Meza, Driver, No. 28 Alessandros Racing/Chevrolet/SLR-M1 Racecars Camaro:
“The way it’s been going for me in the TA2 Series, starting on the pole and just never really seeing anybody in front of me, today was a different experience, and I loved it out there. Even though we didn’t win, finished P7, it’s probably one of the most fun races I’ve had in the series just with how hectic it was out there. You had to really be on it, and having a wet-weather race, you’re never really relaxed out there, at least for me. I had a really good start, got to the lead on lap one, but then a caution came out, and then Alon got around me, and then my teammate Ben got by me, and I just kind of fell back there at the beginning and it took me a while to get into a rhythm. I was probably a little too conservative. So, at that point I was thinking more damage control and just making sure that I had no contact with other cars and thankfully brought the car back in one piece. But I’m definitely glad I found my weakness here. I knew I was going to lose a race at some point, and I’m happy to lose it to Alon, my teammate. He’s really been pushing me hard all season. Connor Mosack as well, whenever he runs with us, is pretty much the benchmark for us. So, it’s good to be surrounded by experience like that. For me, this series is to learn and develop and that’s what we’re going to do after this race. Indy’s next, so looking forward to going to that historic track. I’m just excited and really happy with all the effort the TeamSLR guys put in, not only being one of the first ones to show up at the track, but the last guys to leave. That just shows why we’re so competitive and so successful in the series, and I’m going to give it my all to not let them down next time it rains.”
